Power transformers are crucial components of the power system. Their proper use and maintenance directly impact the stability and safety of power supply. Mastering sound operating techniques not only extends equipment life but also improves operational efficiency.

 

First, pre-commissioning inspections are essential. Verify that the transformer's exterior is intact, the oil level is within the normal range, the cooling system is functioning properly, and all terminals are securely fastened. Before initial power-up, it is recommended to conduct a no-load test, gradually increasing the voltage to the rated value and observing for any abnormal sounds or overheating.

Strictly control the load during operation. Long-term overload operation of the transformer can lead to elevated oil temperatures, insulation degradation, and even failure. It is recommended to monitor winding and oil temperatures in real time using a temperature monitoring device to ensure they do not exceed the manufacturer's specified limits (typically, oil temperatures should not exceed 85°C). Additionally, regularly record voltage and current data to analyze whether the load factor is within an acceptable range (generally, no more than 80% of the rated capacity is recommended).

Maintenance is key to ensuring performance. Regularly check the condition of the insulating oil. If the oil becomes darker or contains excessive water, filter or replace it promptly. Outdoor transformers must be protected from rain and dust, and the bushings must be cleaned regularly to prevent flashovers. Furthermore, preventive testing, including insulation resistance testing and DC resistance measurements, should be conducted every two to three years to detect potential hazards early.

Standardized procedures must be followed during outages. After powering off, wait for the windings to completely cool before disconnecting the cooling system and taking moisture-proof measures. Transformers that have been out of service for extended periods require regular charging (e.g., monthly) to maintain insulation performance.

Proper operation and scientific maintenance can significantly improve transformer reliability, laying the foundation for the safe operation of the power system.
